DIAMOND SELECT TOYS Cthulhu Idol Glow-in-The-Dark Bank

Product description

A Diamond Select Toys release! In his house at R’lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming. and glowing! This new, glow-in-the-dark vinyl bank of the Old God Cthulhu, as described in the stories of H.P. Lovecraft, measures approximately 8 Inch tall and is cast in a glowing material that is recharged in sunlight. Bring him along when exploring the tunnels beneath the Mountains of Madness, or even the sunken city of R’lyeh! Packaged in a clear polybag. Sculpted by Eli Livingston!.

  1. This bank is a great size and has really impressive detail. The glow-in-the-dark finish is a nice addition.

  2. except I justify accumulating my spare change in one spot other than the couch; this is very cool, glows well, sturdily constructed, would make a great garden gnome(eater) if you made a plaster cast of it

  3. JUST SPOOKY FUN WAY TO SAVE MONEY

  4. Amazing item, very glow in the dark, actually it is bedt of the best

  5. Looks great, will look better when I’m done altering it.

  6. Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn and he glows as well. The complaints that he does not glow are baseless and most probably caused by the resultant onset of total insanity caused by his very presence in the midst of the weak of mind. After several days of being confined in a box of AMAZONS making which must have been infused with eldritch magic of immense power, my Cthulhu was placed in a room where only a single compact fluorescent bulb of modest strength provided illumination for much much less than the millennia he has spend below R’lyeh ( about 6 hours) and then removed to a darkened chamber of slumber where he glowed for the entire night. I was called to my place of work or I could tell you he glowed for much longer I’m sure, as when I left he was still easily discernible gazing hungrily at my spouse as she slept.

  7. But that’s by design. I purchased the glow-in-the-dark version simply because at the time it was a few dollars cheaper than the painted version, and I was planning to paint over it. My very talented wife painted the idol with a base coat of Rust-Oleum “Metallic Antique Brass”, then brushed in some “satin black” craft paint into the cracks and finished it off with some “bright gold” craft paint highlights.I’m happy with both the product and my wife’s artistic “antiqueification” of the idol. Now the Cthulhu Idol sits on my desk at Miskatonic University… dreaming…

  8. My sanity is in tatters. Fantastic

  9. Bigger than I thought it would be. About the size of The Maltese falcon. Super happy with this. Of course 10 mins later I painted with Modern Masters bronze paint (from Amazon) then painted with Liver of Sulphur (Amazon) then Modern Masters green patina (Amazon) then waxed and followed up with Amy Howards Dust of Ages (Amazon)

  10. Hubby bought this to make a mold of it for fun.So far it watches over us while we sleep. It sits there, glowing. Very worth every unsettling moment. I would buy it again. On serious note the material it is made of absorbs light very easily and glows for hours. I am very pleased with the detail of the mold and there is no flashing on the bank. I am very happy with this purchase.

  11. What a cool depiction of Cthulhu for a reasonable price. It has a slot for coins in the back but I didn’t plan on using this as a piggy bank.It stands approximately 9.5 inches tall. Feels durable even though it’s completely hollow. Stands up well. Nicely detailed sculpt on all sides.I took the 4th and 5th pictures after exposing Cthulhu to a bright LED headlamp for a few seconds. All pics taken in a darkened (not completely dark) room.I included 5 pics below for more details. Please hit the button below if they were helpful. Thanks!

  12. Giant, super glowing idol of the Elder one. Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn!

  13. I’m painting it to look like stone to put in a reptile tank. It’s the perfect size for my purposes. Bonus that it’s a piggy bank. Now my lizard can save his own money for his treats.

  14. Glow in the dark vinyl doesn’t do justice to this beautiful sculpt. So I sprayed on a base coat of Krylon 2x Paint & Primer for Plastics in satin granite. Then I brushed on a darker gray with acrylic paint, thinned with alcohol. Get it into all the crevices and wipe/blot it with a clean rag. While you’re at it, paint a pair of tealights the same way. For the punchline, add the baby from the Calico Critters kangaroo family.

  15. Great product at a reasonable price. Arrived before promised with no problems at all. I love it!

  16. The painted version of this bank is beautiful. The detail is lost in the glow in the dark version, but man does it glow! If you are a big fan of glow in the dark you can’t help but enjoy this

  17. I bought four of these innocuous baubles mainly because of the intensely foreboding dreams I have been experiencing as of late. I have documented my experiences fully in my diaries, but let me just warn you, this is not simply a decorative curiosity. Be prepared, for the love of God, be prepared.

  18. I chose the glow model because it cheaper. It had a wonderful sculpt and looks as realistic as an anthropoid, half dragon/ octopus can. The vinyl construction means that I don’t have to worry about it falling. I painted mine so that it looks more like the painted version.

  19. Better than the picture. I didn’t really know what to expect but I was very impressed when I opened up the box it was shipped in.
